Recently, the issue about whether students’ social activities are more important than their meals has aroused considerable controversies. Some hold that schools should fund more on the former than on the latter. However, I personally disagree with this point of view.
Admittedly, students’ social activities are of great significance. social activities offer students the opportunities to practice various skills and abilities. Also, they provide the chance and platform for students to meet new friends. the importance of friendship is widely recognized in today’s world since our mental health and career development relies on it to a great extent. with the current overwhelming pressure students receive from school and their families, it is not hard to imagine how much they will suffer without friendship. if they establish a large network of friends, they find someone to confide in and to release their inner stress, and hence guarantee that they grow up healthily.
However, meal’s importance is also not negligible. As the saying goes, we are what we eat. No one would deny that meals are the main source of nutrition we intake, which ensure the perfect function of our body and our brain. All students need a healthy body to study efficiently. Meals with sufficient nutrition offer plenty of vitamins and other nutrients that can make it easier for them to concentrate. Hypothetically, schools fail to provide meals sufficient in nutrition would lead to the students’ malnutrition, which would bring negative influence to students’ academic performance.
In conclusion, although I concede that it is of crucial importance for schools to fund their students’’ activities since they can learn many things from actual society but from book, I do not think to fund activities is more important than to invest in students’’ meals since food really plays a vital role on students’ study.
