Human being has been developing the economy at the cost of environment, which we all know negatively affect human health and sustainable development of the world. Therefore, it was asserted by some people that government should pay more attention rather than protecting the environment. I personally, however, can hardly agree with this view.
Admittedly, protecting the environment is become quite urgent for human. Because of human activities, the air and water has been severely contaminated. With the improvement of people’s living standard, an increasing number of people now can afford private cars, as a result of which a lot of oil is consumed each day and a large amount of exhaust is discharged into the air. Factories also emit waste gases into the air without processing, which lead to the deterioration of the quality of air. Many factories, chemical plants in particular, pour waste into rivers and streams without processing in order to lower the cost and make more profits. This is troubling because human’s drinking water come from the air. To put it another way, people’s lives are threatened by not have access to clean and safe drinking water.
However, economic growth can never be neglected. This is because only when the economy develops can people live a happy and high-quality life. economic growth definitely improves people’s quality of life. With advanced economy, people now can buy better food, a car and even a house. Most companies locate in downtown areas, where the environment is severely polluted because of the large number of vehicles and the incredible amount of waste produced by people every day. As a result, many people prefer to live in suburban areas, where the environment is pleasant and enjoyable. As people now can afford cars due to the ideal economic situation, they can drive to work and this is convenient and comfortable.
In a nut shell, protecting the environment is indeed essential for the government, but we can never attach too much importance to economic development.
Both the reading and the listening are talking about a kind of animal named warrah. The reading holds the idea that humans brought Warrh to the island, while the listening material casts doubts on this view and puts forward some arguments to disprove it.
The reading points out that there are traces of cano on the island, which indicates that South Americans once brought Wah to the island before. In contrast, the listening disputes that Warrh came to the island much earlier than humans did. They came to the island 17000years earlier.
It is also claimed in the passage that Warrh was the only mammal. However, the speaker argues that Warrh sat on the iceberg and float to the island. Even though it was quite cold there, they could feed on other small mammals. Warrh was the largest mammals then.
Finally, the writer insists that Warrh was not afraid to see humans. On the other hand, the lecturer disputes that the Warrh had been the largest mammal for quite a long time. They did not have any predators and so they were not afraid of humans. |
