SPEAKING SECTION

Task 1

Talk about a style of clothing you like the most, explain in details why you like wearing it.

Sample response

I like sportswear the most. Brands like NorthFace and Columbia are my favorite. First, they are made to last forever. They are tough, well made, well thought out. They might not be the prettiest, but boy do they last! I have a few jackets that were bought many years ago that are still in near perfect condition. I’ve never really taken good care of them. I usually just toss them in the washer right after exercising or hiking. Years later, every button and zipper still works perfectly! Second, they are perfect for outdoor activities which I love the most. They keep me warm and dry no matter how horrible the weather gets.

Task 2

Some teachers like to give class assignments in person, others like to give assignments by email. which do you think is better? Explain why.

Sample response

I prefer to receive assignments by email for the following reasons. First, students will have a better understanding of the specifics and requirements of an assignment. Last year, I received a poor grade on my history paper because I've misunderstood what the teacher wanted us to do. It's not that I didn't work hard on it, it's just that, it's impossible to take down every little details. Second, it will save teachers plenty of time explaining things over and over again. They do get mad for doing too much of that. Sending an email saves time and efforts for everyone.

Task 3

Sample response

The passage talks about adaptive reuse, which means some historical but valuable construction sites can b reused as other functions. For example, the professor worked in an architecture company and changed a chocolate factory into a concert hall. The main structure is protected because it's time honored and it looks nice. They clean up the exterior and found it has beautiful decoration on huge windows, so it would be attractive as a concert hall. Then the interior features are also suitable for concert hall. It has a high ceiling that could lead to good sound effects, and there are plenty of room for seats and a performing stage. Audience could appreciate beautiful views of the city through huge windows as well.

Task 4

Task 5

Sample response

The female student got a $50 parking ticket after hanging out with her friends at weekends. She didn't know it is no parking area because she didn't see the sign. There are two possible solutions. First, challenging the parking ticket, it takes her a lot of time driving to down town and she's busy with assignments. Second, pay the ticket. In my opinion, she should take the first one. Although it's a time-consuming work but if there isn't a sign, it's unfair for her to pay the fine.

Task 6

【讲课要点】:adaptations of wading birds with the example of storks; wading birds develop 2 adaptations

一种:special beak

描述:which could distinguish food by touching, storks have special long beaks

二种:special feet preventing sinking down into mud

描述:the toes of storks are special
