Task 1

Describe the feature that you think is the most important of a school you've recently attended: students that help each other, knowledgeable teachers and strict rules.

Sample response

For me, the most important feature of a school is knowledgeable teacher. As we all know, teachers play an important role in teaching. In China, students get their knowledge directly from their teachers instead of learning by themselves. So a knowledgeable teacher can have a great impact on students. I have learned a lot from my English teacher in college, he has mastered in interdisciplinary approach to teaching . Like he not only teaches us English but also literature. He inspires his students instead of cramming knowledge into his students' brain; so knowledge teachers is the key.

 

Task 2

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: process is more important than result?

Sample response

Well, personally, I think it depends. If I participate a shared activity, say basketball, then process is more important than result. I won't care about the final score, win or lose, because process is more important, whether I have a good time or not. But if I have to pass an exam in that case, result is much more important than process. I won't enjoy the process during exam. What I care about is the result. So it all depends on our priorites.

 

Task 3

【提议】:学校提供三次研讨课帮助新生做好学业以及独立生活的准备,课后学生可以互相了解。

【学生议论】:男生同意

理由一:学生可以更好地适应学习生活,不会

理由二:同一专业的学生可以一起玩,不同专业的可以结交新朋友可以找到相同点。

Sample response

The school provides three seminars helping first years preparing for academic challenges and live independently. And there is a get together after the seminar for students to meet and know each other. First, it helps students better prepared academically. The seminar will tell students how to plan ahead, then there won't be readings left unfinished next time like what the male student experienced in his first year of college life. Secondly, it helps prepare the students socially. Students of same major can hang out and students from different majors can make new friends and find something in common with people having different way of thinking.

 

Task 4

【名词解释】: Facial feedback

【教授举例】: 分两组人做数学题,让其中一组人笑着做题,然后第二组人哭着做题。做完以后问他们感受,第一组人会说有意思,第二组人就会反馈觉得没意思。

Sample response

The facial feedback hypothesis states that facial movement can influence emotional experience. For example, an individual who is forced to smile during a social event will actually come to find the event more of an enjoyable experience. The professor gave an example. There were two groups of people; one group was told to smile when they were doing the math problems while the other group was told to cry. After they finished the test, they were asked to share how they feel; the first group said that was very interesting while the other group said it was boring.

 

Task 5

【学生困难】:学生感冒了,然后要去唱歌比赛。

【解决方案】:

方案一:等病好了唱

评价:但是时间安排冲突

方案二:去唱

评价:通过没问题,但是分数不一定高。

Sample response

The student catches a cold and has a singing competition to take. There are two solutions. First, take the competition until she recovers. But the schedule has a conflict. Second, take the competition all the same; she is afraid she can't get a high mark.

 

Task 6

Method 1: Internal
Example: Organism in water produce oxygen, like plant.
Method 2: External
Example: Winds blow off
