Should high school students be required to study many different subjects at the same time or should they study only three or four subjects at a time?
They should study three or four subjects at a time.
Studying various courses will lead to health and psychological problems. Most high school students are under the pressure to keep a satisfactory academic record in order to be admitted to a top university. Therefore, many of them already need to stay up late to do homework and drills. If they are required to enroll in a variety of courses, their sleep time will be further truncated, which does nothing but detriment to students’ health. Moreover, as is reported in the news all the time, many high school students are suffering from psychological problems such as depression due to academic pressure. With so much course work piling on their desk, waiting to be completed, it is no wonder they are anxious and upset all the time. On the other hand, they are missing out on many extracurricular activities such as sports and volunteer opportunities, which are more beneficial to their growth than test-oriented drills.
