此句不能译作：“这个小女孩对我很亲热。”如要表达此涵义，应该说:The little girl is affectionate towards me.
在英语中，有些形容词能表示被动的涵义，上例中dear就是其中一例，他相当于beloved或lovable，因此不能把它译为“对……亲热”。如要表示主动的意味，应该用affectionate，因为它表示showing love to的意思。请看类似例子：
He is a man dear to all.
所有人都喜欢他。
What a dear little child.
多么惹人喜爱的孩子啊！
Freedom is dearer to him than life.
对他来说，自由比生命更宝贵。
My mother is dear to me.
我爱我的母亲。
Oh, if only she knew how dear she is to our hearts!
啊，但愿她知道我们是多么爱她！
Dear也可以用作名词，例如:You are a dear. (你是个可爱的人)。作名词时，dear依旧表示被动的意味。
另外，名词stranger和形容词strange的用法与dear颇为相似。例如：He is a stranger to me.此句应译为：“我不认识他”，而不能译为“他不认识我”。His handwriting is strange to me.是“我不认识他的笔迹”，不是：“他的笔迹不认得我。”
下面再请看一些表示被动涵义的形容词：
They are all contemptible fellows.
(deserving to be despised)
It is said this dictionary is not get-at-able in Macau.
(that can be obtained)
The book is informative and highly readable.
(capable of being read with pleasure)
Your words are understandable.
(that can be understood)
Mary’s words are noteworthy.
(deserving to be noted)
His conduct is praiseworthy.
(deserving to be praised)
It’s something unwished-for.
(undesired or not wished)
His address is unknown to me.
(that is not known)
所以此句应翻译为：我喜欢这个女孩。
