英语陷阱:Give me a pail of purifying water, please.

这一句不能翻成：请给我一桶干净的水。如果要表达此意，应该说：

Give me a pail of pure water, please.

因为purifying water的purifying 是动名词，其含义相当于: the water used for purifying something, 故译为：净化用的水。假若动名词purifying改作过去分词purified，意义又大不相同。试比较下句和上两句的区别：

Give me a pail of purified water, please.

这里的过去分词表示被动的含义，相当于：water that has been purified, 故翻译为：净化过的水。

an opening door 正在关闭的门（现在分词）

an opened door 被打开的门（过去分词）

an open door 开着的门（形容词）
