Read the following passages:

In Rio Olympic Games, the Chinese delegation won 26 gold, 18 silver and 26 bronze medals. Chinese athletes set five world records and 12 Olympic records, also winning the first gold medal for China in bicycle and men's taekwondo. Since the Games, a variety of the athletes have been known to the public and received warm welcome at the airport when they returned home. Some of them were invited to many commercial activities or TV shows. The social media even focus on the privacy of these athletes.

国际扫盲日致辞

This year, the world has embarked on implementing the ambitious and transformational 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. With its 17 universal, integrated and interdependent Sustainable Development Goals, the 2030 Agenda is an action plan for people, planet, partnership and peace.

今年，世界各国开始执行雄心勃勃、具有变革性的《2030年可持续发展议程》。《2030年议程》包含17项普遍、综合、相互独立的可持续发展目标，是为人类、地球、伙伴关系及和平而制订的行动计划。

Literacy stands at heart of the 2030 Agenda. It is a foundation for human rights, gender equality, and sustainable societies. It is essential to all our efforts to end extreme poverty and promote well-being for all people. That is why the Sustainable Development Goals aim for universal access to quality education and learning opportunities throughout people’s lives.

扫盲是《2030年议程》的核心。它是实现人权、性别平等和可持续社会的基础，对消除极端贫穷和促进所有人福祉的全部努力至关重要。正因如此，可持续发展目标才致力于使人人终身可获得优质教育和学习机会。

One of the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 4 is to ensure that all young people achieve literacy and numeracy and that a substantial proportion of adults who lack these skills are given the opportunity to acquire them. More than 750 million adults are illiterate, including 115 million young people. Two thirds are female. Some 250 million children of primary school age lack basic literacy skills and 124 million children and adolescents receive no schooling at all.

可持续发展目标4的一项具体目标是所有青年都能识字和识数，很大一部分缺乏这些技能的成人有机会获得技能。超过7.5亿成人为文盲，包括1.15亿青年，三分之二文盲为女性。约有2.5亿小学年龄段的儿童缺乏基本识字技能，1.24亿儿童和青少年未接受任何教育。

These obstacles to sustainable development can and must be overcome by developing and implementing the right policies, backed up by commitment and resources. We need to ensure that those out of school get access to quality learning opportunities, we need to improve the quality of schooling, and we need to promote adult education and learning. On this International Literacy Day, I call on governments and their partners, including in the private sector, to join forces for universal literacy so we can translate the vision of the 2030 Agenda into reality and build peaceful, just, inclusive and sustainable societies.

可持续发展所面临的这些障碍可以并且必须克服，可为此制订和实施适当政策，并通过做出承诺和提供资源给予支持。我们必须确保未入学者获得优质学习机会，提高教育质量，并促进成人教育和学习。值此国际扫盲日之际，我呼吁各国政府及其包括私营部门在内的合作伙伴携手普及识字，从而将《2030年议程》的愿景化为现实，建设和平、公正、包容各方的可持续社会。

很高兴与大家在天津再次相聚。首先，我代表中国政府，对夏季达沃斯论坛的召开，表示热烈祝贺！对各位远道而来的嘉宾和媒体界的朋友，表示诚挚欢迎！

It’s a great pleasure to meet you again in Tianjin. At the outset, I wish to congratulate, on behalf of the Chinese government, the opening of the Annual Meeting of the New Champions, and extend sincere welcome to all our guests coming from afar and friends from the press.

本次论坛是第10届夏季达沃斯论坛。中国有句话叫“十年树木”。如果把这个论坛比作树木的话，经过十年的精心培育，已是枝繁叶茂、硕果累累，不仅向世界展示了中国改革开放和现代化建设的历程与成就，也为世界和中国实现共同发展繁荣贡献了智慧与力量。

This is the tenth Annual Meeting of the New Champions, or the Summer Davos, as it is known. There is a Chinese saying which goes, “It takes ten years to grow a tree.” If we could compare the Summer Davos to a tree, after ten years of careful nurturing, it has grown into a luxuriant tree with bountiful fruits. It has showcased to the world the process and achievements of China’s reform, opening up and modernization. It has also contributed wisdom and strength to the common development and prosperity of China and the world.

国际金融危机爆发以来，各方努力应对，使用了各种刺激增长的政策工具。8年过去了，世界经济复苏远不及预期，全球贸易投资增长低迷，大宗商品和金融市场不时动荡，发达国家和新兴经济体走势分化，地缘政治风险加大，不稳定因素增多。前几天英国公投脱欧，对国际金融市场的影响已经显现，世界经济新的不确定性还在增加。

When the international financial crisis broke out eight years ago, countries resorted to various policy tools to grapple with the crisis and stimulate growth. Eight years on, recovery of the world economy has fallen far short of people’s expectations: global trade and investment are lackluster; commodities and financial markets have experienced volatility from time to time; growth prospects of developed and emerging economies are diverging; and geopolitical risks and destabilizing factors are both on the rise. Just a few days ago, the UK voted to leave the EU in a referendum. This is already making an impact on the international financial markets and adding to the uncertainties in the world economy.

在此情况下，推动世界经济复苏和各国经济增长，需要共同应对挑战、提振信心，共同营造稳定的国际环境，共同寻求治本之策。欧洲国家是中国的重要伙伴。在新的形势下，中方将继续致力于维护好发展好中欧、中英关系。我们希望看到一个团结、稳定的欧盟，也希望看到一个稳定、繁荣的英国。本届论坛以“第四次工业革命——转型的力量”为主题，为人们提供了新视角，具有前瞻性和现实意义。

Against such a backdrop, to promote world economic recovery and the growth of all economies, we need to make joint efforts to tackle challenges, strengthen confidence, foster a stable international environment and find solutions to address root causes of the problems we face. European countries are important partners for China. Under the new circumstances, China will continue to maintain and grow its relations with the EU and the UK. We hope to see a united and stable EU and a stable and prosperous UK. The theme of the forum, “the Fourth Industrial Revolution and its Transformational Impact”, offers people a new perspective and is thus forward-looking and relevant.
