跟大家探讨翻译的那点事儿。

英语中有个说法叫out of sight, out of mind.

这个句子非常“浓缩”，相当于Someone/something is out of one's mind when it is out of  one's sight.

一直以来，翻译教材中都把这句话翻译成“眼不见，心不烦”，而且这个翻译版本也一直被奉为标准答案。

可是细细想来，这个“心不烦”的“烦”从何而来呢？

mind可以指thought, attention, memory intellect, idea, decision, opinion等等，朗文上有个用法叫做get sb./sth, out of your mind，意思是 to stop ypurself thinking about someone or something,也就是说不再去想某人/某事，所以out of mind可以被理解为忘却，与之相反的说法是，be into one's mind,也就是“想起”。

只是不再去想，而没有“心烦”的意思呀。。。

所以原句“out of sight, out of mind”颇有点“人走茶凉”的意思呢，可以翻译成“看不见了，也就淡忘了/不放在心上了”

还有，这个out of有很多用法，基本意思是“在。。。范围之外”，可以表示某种状态，也会表示原因。有很多短语，比如：out of control, out of work, out of date, out of doubt, out of breath, out of doors, out of repair, out of curiosity, out of kindness...很多呢

想起一首诗，可以换一个字，“衣带渐宽终不悔，为‘译’消得人憔悴”。。。

翻译这点事啊，还真的值得细细推敲呢。
