Nowadays, people in Chinese companies often receive far more money than people whose job is to run errands in foreign or joint-venture companies. People who work in foreign or joint-venture are often referred to as/ regarded as “Chinese people speaking foreign languages in big foreign companies” for the simple reason that the working languages are often foreign languages in foreign companies in China. Those people often use both languages to communicate with each other, which is often quite confusing to others. Such is human nature, that a great many people often look down upon those people working hard in Chinese companies and are willing to sacrifice higher pay for the privilege of becoming foreign company workers. This can give rise to curious situations, as it did in the case of XiaoLi who are working in a big foreign company.
