mess是一团乱吗？细心一点的读者一定会发现，解释为“一团乱”似乎说不通，在上下文中没有依据，而翻译翻字典你就会发现，mess还有别的意思，这里它是指：a building or room in which members of the armed forces have their meals, 也就是（军队）食堂的意思。

这句话描写的是小说的主人公Tristran和Yvaine来到一艘航行在空中的船上时发生的事情，mess在这里指的是这艘船上的食堂。
