昂立外语【新概念培训】分享blow这个词。在上课过程中，总会有学生问：“老师，这个词不是XXX的意思吗？”其实学英语词汇最难得地方便是一个单词有许多意思。像blow这个单词，它初看起来似乎很简单，不就是“吹气”的意思吗？是的，但是这个单词在字典里总共有二十九种解释。今天我就来分享一些blow的用法。

首先来看一个美剧片段，出自The Big Bang Theory S01E09 

此段里便出现了一个blow常见的用法：blow up 

首先blow这个词本身意义就很丰富，以下选取了一些常见的意思

blow

verb uses:

a)        刮风

b)        吹（气）

c)        吹哨

d)       炸毁

e)        搞砸

f)         开花

noun uses:

a)        （拳或武器的）击打  *可数名词

b)        打击

c)        许多花

而blow up这个词组根据上下文会有5种意思的变化。而在这段对话中的意思为下面的第一种：爆炸

blow up

1. 用炸药炸毁某物，爆炸

e.g. He was jailed for 45 years for trying to blow up a plane.

他因图谋炸飞机而被监禁了45年。

2. 发脾气，发火

e.g. I'm sorry I blew up at you.

对不起，我冲你发脾气了。

3. 给...充气

e.g. Other than blowing up a tire I hadn't done any car maintenance.

除了给一个轮胎充气外，我没有做过任何汽车保养。

4. 放大；夸大

e.g. The image is blown up on a large screen.

图像在大屏幕上被放大了。

    Newspapers blew up the story.

报纸夸大了这个故事。

5.  (风、暴风雨) 大作

e.g. A storm blew up over the mountains.

山上狂风大作。

下面让我们来看看新概念英语中的blow

1. Lesson 49 The end of a dream

He slept very well for the first two nights, but on the third night, a storm blew up.

头两天晚上，他睡得非常好。但第三天晚上起了风暴。

这里的blew up 用到的是第5种：风暴大作

2. Lesson 81 Escape 

As the man came near, the prisoner knocked him to the ground with a sharp blow.

当这个人走近时，战俘一拳把他打倒在地。

这里的blow很显然是个名词，用到的是上面blow名词用法中的第一种：（拳的）击打。 需注意在做此意思时，blow是个可数名词。

a sharp blow可意为猛地一拳
