在新一课本中此处我们学到charge是一个及物动词，意指“罚款”。但是其实charge这个词用法非常丰富。相信读过新二的人还记得以下这句话。

Apparently sensitive to criticism, the bull forgot all about the matador and charged at the drunk.（新二，Lesson 70）

（1）此处charge 为 不及物动词，意指“冲上去”

The police charged him with speeding.

（2）此处charge 为及物动词，意指“指控，控诉”.

How much do you charge for this dress? （询问价格：这条裙子你收多少钱？）

（3）此处charge 为及物动词，意指“收费”、“索价”。注：此处主语常常是人。如：He charged me 100 Yuan for an ice cream!(他一个冰淇淋收我100元！)

4）charge还用作名词，表示“负责”、“管理”，通常为不可数名词；charge还可作可数名词，表示“收费”，通常(但不一定)用复数形式；还有表示“控告”时可用可数名词。常见于以下常见的短语中。

表示“负责”、“管理”

in the charge of 由…负责

in charge of 主管

take charge of 照顾，管理，负责

表示“收费”

free of charge 免费

表示“控告”

make a charge against 指控某人

例子：

Tom is in charge of this factory. Tom 管理这个公司。

=This factory is in the charge of Tom.  （注： in the charge of  表被动，而in charge of  表主动）

The ticket is free of charge.这票是免费的。

He made a charge against his wife. 他控告他妻子。
