昂立外语【新概念培训】跟大家分享plain这个小词。在我们新概念二Lesson 43 Over the South Pole的课文的最后有这样一句话： The aircraft was able to fly over the endless white plains without difficulty.

在这篇课文中，plain是一个名词，解释为a large area of flat dry land，“平原”，这句话的意思也就是说，飞机可以毫无困难地飞过这片茫茫无际的白色原野。那接下来我们一起来看一下，出现在下面一段话中的plain是什么意思把~

这是李安执导的电影《少年派的奇幻漂流》中，主人公派成年后所说的一段话，在这里我们不探讨第一个故事和第二个故事究竟哪个才是真实发生的，我们就来看看他在讲述完两个故事后说的这段话，可以看出成年派在经受了那一段海上求生的经历后对于人生有了新的认识，以及他对Richard Parker的怀念和感激。因而他说道，这是一个plain truth，如果没有Richard Parker的话，他也不可能活到今天，讲述他的故事。大家都知道truth是真相的意思，这里的plain显然是一个形容词，来修饰truth，根据派的述说，其实我们可以猜测出这里他想表达的是，这个真相是很显而易见的、不需要任何说明的，没错，这里的plain的意思就是very clear, and easy to understand or recognize，也就是“清楚的”的意思。小朋友们赶紧把plain这个常用解释记住咯~
