stand v. be upright站立

e.g. I don't think the chair is firm enough to stand on.

 我觉得这椅子不够稳固,不能站人。

e.g. I twisted my ankle, and I couldn't stand up.

e.g. Several pine trees stand erect on the hillside. 

几棵青松挺立在山坡上。

而“stand”一词出现在大红大紫的《冰雪奇缘》中，又有什么新的含义呢？

stand v. have or maintain a position or stand on an issue 支持，主张

e.g. He hasn't a leg to stand for this theory of his. 

他的这种理论是站不住脚的。

关于“stand”的其他：

e.g. She is funny, but I can't stand her. 

她滑稽,但我无法忍受她。

e.g. How can you stand such insolence?

 stand v. remain inactive or immobile

e.g. The earth would stand still if you won Tyler this time. 这次你要是能赢了泰勒，我看地球都会停止不转了。
