arrest: the person is taken to a POLICE STATION and kept there because the police
believe they may be guilty of a crime
You are under arrest now. You have the right to remain silent and refuse to answer
questions. Anything you do say maybe used against you in a court of law…
Pride and Prejudice
In the gallery there were many family portraits, but they could have little to fix the
attention of a stranger. Elizabeth walked in quest of the only face whose features
would be known to her. At last it arrested her—and she beheld a striking resemblance
to Mr. Darcy, with such a smile over the face as she remembered to have sometimes
seen when he looked at her.
女主角到了Pemberley庄园,被女主人带领着参观家里的挂满肖像的画室,可惜我们的Elizabeth小姐不是特别懂得艺术,所以她就walked in quest of the only face whose features would be known to her, 也就是我们生活里常见的画面,寻找自己熟悉的面孔,那么找到了没有呢?
At last, it arrested her.
arrest的第三个意思:to make somebody notice something and pay attention to it
