       文中stage作名词表示“舞台或戏院”，为具体名词，stage也可作抽象名词，表示“某种时间或状态”，例如：the early stages of a child’s development；The next stage(阶段) is to complete an application form.事实上，stage也可以作为动词。     

    我们来看看新三Lesson31(a lovable eccentric)中出现的stage的用法：It took him four years to stage this elaborate joke simply to prove that critics do not always know what they are talking about.

      《可爱的怪人》这篇课文最后讲到“怪人”Dickie为了证明评论家们有时并不了解他们所谈论的事，花了四年时间精心设计一闹剧，邀请评论家来参观他自己所画的现代画，并且名义上声称是名家的作品。

      翻阅词典，我们可以看到stage作动词，意思和“organize”接近，意思是：组织、筹备（精心），相关的短语有：stage a strike/demonstration/protest（组织罢工、抗议 ）。另外大家知道西方国家在进行大选前候选人都会多次公开露面进行造势宣传，我们可以这么说： The candidates’ public appearances were carefully staged（精心策划）.
