一：用作动词 (v.) 

1.  The question is simple enough to answer.         

 这个问题很简单，容易回答。

2.He answered that he knew nothing about it.    

他答复说关于此事他一无所知。

3.I have to type letters and answer the phone.   

我又得用打字机打信，又得接电话。

二：用作名词 (n.)

1. If you think carefully, you will find the answer.  

仔细考虑一下,你就会找到答案。

2. He knocked at the door but there was no answer.      

他敲了门,但是没有人回答。

3.You'd better talk it over with your wife and give me your answer tomorrow.   

你最好和你的妻子商量一下,明天给我一个答复吧。

近义词辨析：answer & reply

1. answer(to)the letter，answer(to)the question，answer(for)the purpose等常用格式中，习惯将to或for等介词省略掉，但是注意reply to the letter中的to不可以省略；

2. (1) answer有时指“答复……的内容”。

 e.g. I have your letter, but as I am very busy, I cannot answer it at present.

(2)有时，answer指“报告收到”，reply指“答复……的内容”。

e.g. I answered your letter by sending a postcard last Monday and have since been waiting for time to reply to it.

3. 同reply比较，answer有时指“中肯的答复”。

e.g. Your reply is not an answer.

你的回答不中肯。
