Background Information

拜占庭帝国（395年—1453年），即东罗马帝国，是一个信奉东正教的君主专制国家。位于欧洲东部，领土曾包括亚洲西部和非洲北部，极盛时领土还包括意大利、叙利亚、巴勒斯坦、埃及和北非地中海沿岸。是古代和中世纪欧洲最悠久的君主制国家。帝国的首都为新罗马（拉丁语：Nova Roma，即君士坦丁堡，Constantinople）。1453年，被奥斯曼土耳其攻入君士坦丁堡而灭亡。

作者威廉·巴特勒·叶芝（William Butler Yeats,1865年-1939年），亦译“叶慈”、“耶茨”，爱尔兰诗人、剧作家和散文家，著名的神秘主义者，是“爱尔兰文艺复兴运动”的领袖，也是艾比剧院（Abbey Theatre）的创建者之一，叶芝先后写过26部戏剧剧本。
