四、pron.

(1)that, who, which, esp. used in the structure “as/so...as...; such(...)as...; the same(...)as...” 象...那样的人(或事物)；凡是...的人(或事物)(as作关系代词，引导定语从句，在从句中作n.性成分。)

She will marry as wealthy a man as she can find. 她将嫁给她能找到的任何一个有钱人。

There is so warm a house as we want to live in. 这里有如此暖和的房子，我们都想住在里面。

He is not such a fool as he looks. 他不像外表那样愚蠢。

He is not the same man as he was. 他已不是从前那个人了。

(2)which fact这一点

As we had expected, he succeeded in the end.正如我们所料，他最终取得了成功。

As is well known, knowledge comes form practice.众所周知，知识来源于实践。

Set Phrase

1. as against phr. prep. in comparison with与...相比

There are 25 girl students in our class as against only 5 in Class Two. 我们班有25名女学生，而二班只有5名。

2.as and when phr. adv. 可能时；conj. 到...时候

I'll tell you more as and when (= as soon as I can). 我一有可能就会告诉你更多情况。

We'll decide on our team as and when we qualify foe the competition. 我们等到有资格参赛时，再来决定本队参赛人员。

3.as for phr. prep. with regard to; concerning (用于引入新话题) 关于，至于，说起

As for you, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.至于你，你应该感到惭愧。

As for the hotel, it was very uncomfortable and miles from the sea.至于旅馆呢，非常不舒服，而且离海边有好几里地。

4.as from phr. prep. 从...时起(=as of) ；来自；因...而起

The new law takes effect as from [=as of] July 1. 新法律从七月一日起生效。

He is pasting a clipping, as from a newspaper. 他在粘贴一份剪报。

He has sore feet, as from too much walking. 他因走了太多的路而走痛了脚。

5.as if/as though phr. conj. 好像，仿佛引导表语从句/方式状语从句

It looks as if it is going to rain. 看来要下雨了。

He looks as if he had seen a ghost. 他像见了鬼似的。

He opened his lips as if to say something. 他张开嘴似乎要说些什么.

She ran as if the Old Boy were after her. 她跑得飞快好像魔鬼在追她似的。

-He'll never come back, you know! 你知道他永远不会回来了。

-As if I cared!” [=I don't care] 好像我多在乎似的(我不在乎)。

6.as is in the present condition without any changes 照现在的样子

Everything on sale here is sold as is. 这里出售的东西是按标价出售的。

7.as it is

a. in reality 事实上

As it is, we can hardly get to the station by 6 o’clock. 事实上，我们六点钟前很难到达车站。

b. in the present condition 照现状

Let it remain as it is.听其自然吧。

c. already已经

Don’t say anything else; you are in enough trouble as it is. 不要再说了，你现在已经够麻烦的了。

8.as it were as one might say; in a way that is not quite exact 可以说；在某种程度上

She is, as it were, a walking dictionary. 她可以说是一部活字典。

9.as of 在...时；到...-时为止；从...时起

As of this writing, no reply has been received. 到写这封信时为止，还没有得到回音。

10.as..., so...像...那样，...也就...；随着...，也就...

As you sow, so will you reap.种瓜得瓜，种豆得豆。

11.as such

a. 照此，就以这种资格

He was a guest and was treated as such. 他是个客人，并被作为客人来款待。

b. 本身，就本身而论

He did not oppose the scheme as such. 就计划本身来说，他并不反对。

c. (常用于否定句)严格说来，如所指的人/事物那样

The new job is not a promotion as such, but it has good prospects. 这一新的工作，严格说来并不算提升，不过以後很有发展前途。

How can there be things as such? 哪会有这种事?

11. as to

a. about, esp. used in arguing or making decision (尤用于争论和做出决定时)有关，关于

As to the plan, I think it is quite good. 至于这个计划，我认为很不错的。

b. according to; by依照

The books in the library were distributed as to subjects.图书馆里的藏书按科目分类。

12.as was formerly, originally, used after a former name 先前的，原来的

Myanmar—Burma as was [=Myanmar, which was formerly called Burma] Myanmar—原来称作Burma。

13.as+be/时态助动词/情态动词+主语 fml used to add that what you have said is also true of someone or something else (甲...)，乙也...

Eve's very tall, as/so was her mother. 伊芙个子很高，她妈妈也一样。

I voted Labor, as/so did my wife. 我投了劳动党的票，我妻子也一样。

14.as well (as)

a.与...一样好

She did as well (as anybody else). 她做得(比别人)毫不逊色。

b.除...之外，也，和

He is an actor, and a director as well. 他是演员，也是导演。

He grows flowers as well as vegetables. 他既种菜也种花。

The boy is lively as well as healthy. 这个男孩既活泼又健康。

15.as yet until now or until a particular time in the past (多与否定句连用)至今(仍不) ，到目前为止(还没有)

As yet we have not heard from him. 我们到现在还没有收到他的信。

As yet little was known of the causes of the disease. 这时还不清楚这种病的起因。

16.so as to-v for the purpose that is为了(后接不定式目的状语)

We left for the station early so as to catch the first train.

我们很早就动身去车站以便赶上头班火车。

17.so...as to-v that the result is以至于(后接不定式结果状语)

(a)so+adj.(+a(n)+n.[c,s])+as+to-v

Would you be so kind as to turn down the radio? 劳驾你把收音机调小声一点好吗？

He is so sensible and clever (a boy) as to be much loved by us. 他是一个懂事聪明的孩子，很讨我们的喜欢。

(b)so+many/few+n.[c,p]+as+to-v

so+much/little/+n.[u]+as+to-v

I were asked so many questions as to get confused. 他们问了许多问题，把我弄糊涂了。

I did so much housework as to be worn out. 我做了很多家务，累得精疲国竭。

(c) such+as+to-v

His illness is such as to cause anxiety. 他病得很重，令人担忧。

(d)such+a(n)(+adj.)+n.[c,s]+as+to-v

He is such a kind man as to be ready to lend a helping hand. 他为人善良，愿意助人。

We had such a lovely day as to go out on a picnic. 我们遇到了好天气，出去野餐了。

(e)such(+adj.)+n.[c,p]/[u]+as+to-v

He told such funny jokes as to make the party full of joys. 他讲了很多有趣的笑话，这使宴会充满了欢乐。

He had such bad food as to throw up afterwards.他吃了坏食物，后来呕吐了。

18.such as(用于列举) 像...这种的；像...那样的；诸如...之类的

We have different pies, such as apple, cherry, and strawberry pies./We have such different pies as apple, cherry, and strawberry pies. 我们有不同的派，例如苹果、樱桃和草莓派。

19.such as it is/such as they are used to say that something is not very good in quality or condition 尽管质量不好

The food, such as it is, is plentiful. 食物虽不精，但量足。

20.as you do (用于对自己刚说过的意思表示具有讽刺意味的看法)真不容易啊，真不简单啊

He smiled and I smiled back. As you do. 他微笑，我也报以微笑。真不容易啊。

21.the same...as...与...同一个...

He works in the same building as my brother.

=He and my brother work in the same building.

他和我弟弟在同一个大楼内工作。
