昂立外语【新概念培训】分享的小词face, Face是我们身体的组成部分，因此不论是作为名词还是形容词，但是其实被我们使用的意思比较单一，比如新概念课本当中用到的face无外乎三种意思。

         新三 Lesson 7 Mutilated ladies当中：With theatrical make-up on his face, he looked as if he had died of shock.

         这里面的face意思就是最基本的脸庞，那么lose face就是我们常用的一个短语，意为丢脸。而face value也就有了面值的意思，而on the face of sth，则以为乍看之下。

         Lesson38 The first calendar当中：But the historian attempting to reconstruct the distant past is always faced with a difficult task.

这里的be faced with是日常生活中常用的面临面对的意思，就相当于及物动词face.

另外Lesson52 Mud is mud当中，How Harry managed to keep a straight face during these performances is quite beyond me.

这里的keep a straight face我们倒是可以学习运用起来哦，它的意思就是板着个脸。

         接下来我们就来看一看face的其他用法吧！

         It was too dark to see the face of my watch. 天太黑了，以致看不见我表盘上的时间。

         这里其实就相当于是拟人化啦，人家表也是有“脸”的嘛，人家的脸就是表盘啊！

         ...scientific principles that seem to fly in the face of common sense.

…一些看似完全有悖常识的科学原理。所以这个短语fly in the face of 就是run counter to/ go against的意思。你可以想象成一下飞到某人脸上，扇了它一个巴掌，那肯定就是和它相对了。

最后我们来看一个face the music。Little Jim broke his neighbor’s window. But he said to himself: “Well, just face the music.”

“面对音乐”，所以这是不是一件特别好的事情呢，哈哈！不是哦，其实它的意思是accept the unpleasant consequences of one's actions。
