新中国成立60年来，我们国家发生了翻天覆地的巨大变化，我国科技事业也取得长足的发展和进步。
Over the past six decades since the founding of the People's Republic of China, tremendous changes have taken place and China has made substantial progress in developing her scientific and technological (S&T) strength.

从“向科学进军”到“科学技术是第一生产力”，从“科教兴国”到“建设创新型国家”，党和国家始终把科学技术摆在战略地位，在国家发展的关键时期做出一系列重大决策部署。//
As always, the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government have given strategic importance to science and technology, which is evident in a series of major decisions and arrangements at defining moments. In different periods, China highlighted judgments like "Marching towards Science", "Science and Technology are the First and Foremost Productivity", and national strategies such as "Rejuvenate the Nation through Science and Education", and "Build an Innovative Country".

经过60年的奋斗，我国已经成为科学技术体系较为完备、科技人力资源世界第一、科技成果不断涌现的科学技术大国。
Through unremitting efforts over those sixty years, today's China is a big player in the S&T arena with a comprehensive system for S&T development, the largest pool of S&T professionals, and an ever-growing number of S&T achievements.

60年来科技事业在艰难中起步，在改革中前行，在创新中发展，为经济发展、社会进步、民生改善和国家安全提供了强有力的支撑。
Looking back on those sixty years, China started to develop science and technology during tough times, made headways in the course of reform, and stimulated S&T advancement through innovation. Science and technology have significantly enabled China to grow the national economy, expedite social progress, upgrade people's living standards, and ensure national security.

60年来科技发展取得的重要成就主要体现在八个方面：
Major S&T achievements of China in the past six decades are demonstrated in the following eight aspects.

一是建立了比较完整的现代科学技术体系。
A comprehensive modern system for S&T advancement has been put into place.

二是形成了宏大的科学技术队伍。
A large team of qualified S&T professionals has been fostered.

三是科学研究水平大幅度提升。
Significant improvement has been made in research capacity.

四是突破了一批重大工程科技难关。
S&T breakthroughs have been scored in a host of major projects.

五是高新技术产业蓬勃发展。
Hi-tech industry has witnessed a boom.

六是科技惠民成效显著。
Visible progress has been achieved in promoting science and technology for the benefit of the public.

   
七是国家创新体系建设全面推进。
Efforts are well under way to build a national innovation system.

八是国际科技合作呈现新局面。
International S&T cooperation has witnessed new developments.

   
60年来，一代又一代的科技工作者满怀强烈的报国之志，以国家富强和民族振兴为己任，科学求实，勤于探索，勇于创新，拼搏奉献，为新中国的科技事业和国家现代化建设贡献了智慧和力量，也为世界科学技术发展作出了重要贡献。

In the past six decades, generations of Chinese compatriots in the S&T sector have worked for the prosperity of the country and the rejuvenation of the nation. They are innovative, truth seeking and devoted, making great contributions to the S&T development of China and the world.
